里看到耶鲁图书馆门上的号称是颜真卿的《颜氏家庙碑》，便觉字体拙劣。今天终于有
空查索，找到在西安市碑林的真迹的拓本。对比便知，耶鲁图书馆门上的颜真卿确是他
人所作。



刻碑做到与原版惟妙惟肖也不是难事，那么这里是哪里出错了？

带着这个疑问，笔者不禁走访了几个网站。

提到 “The sculptor responsible for much of the stone carving within SML was
Rene P. Chambellan. He drew his inspiration not only from well-known
literary works but from their illustrations; from symbols of historic,
philosophic, religious, or mythological significance; from nature; and from
the heraldry of the University itself.”

achievements of ancient civilizations. It is the work of architectural

耶鲁校报1930年一篇文章《the decoration of the sterling memorial library》提
到 "The sketch model was made by Mr. Lee Lawrie, of New York City, while Mr.
René P. Chambellan followed this sketch in his own way in doing the full-
size sculpture."

好吧，Lee Lawrie 设计，Rene Paul Chambellan 雕刻。

我推测 Lee Lawrie 找人推荐的，而那人并没有给拓本，而是自己写的。

如果是按拓本雕刻，即使没有刻汉字的经验，也不会与原作相差那么远。

很多工人就是不识字，或者故意反着刻，才能还原原作的风采。

我认真是因为我不爽，好比有人说，你们中国人好美，看名模吕！我得站出来说，她是
很美，但是其实美女还有某某某。

看来得走一趟 The Library of Congress 了， 因为那里有手稿 《Lee Lawrie papers
, 1908-1990》。
